The FIA has again owned up to its human error at Formula 1’s Singapore Grand Prix, with its single-seater director Nikolas Tombazis describing it as “the worst thing” for the federation.
After sprint qualifying was red-flagged following Sergio Perez's crash, the end of SQ1 was impacted by race control first failing to reactivate overtake mode, then turning it back on for 27 seconds and deactivating it again.

Drivers were puzzled by the lack of power, and those who were eliminated in that first phase of sprint qualifying felt they unfairly came off worse. Aston Martin F1 Team is still leaving its options open, depending on any further action by the FIA to make any rectifications. The team is keen for the starting grid to reflect a fair and equal playing field, though it is not sure if the governing body has any levers to untangle the mess without causing further angst.
Fernando Alonso pointed out that the FIA knew it was unfair on some teams yet decided to just press on with the rest of the session. Such technical gremlins continue to question the integrity of F1 as a sporting competition.
Fernando Alonso currently sits 17th in the drivers' championship with 7 points.
