The start of the first wet-weather race of the Formula 1 season descended into chaos as Max Verstappen first suffered from a lack of power while driving slowly during the formation laps behind the safety car, after which Lewis Hamilton came to a standstill and several other cars followed.

Race control was forced to stop the formation lap with a red flag, prompting a 40-minute delay before fans got to see action. The FIA later identified an unprecedented combination of conditions and an updated software release that removed energy limit constraints in affected sectors, leading to the power failures. The issue had escaped testing, but a prompt software update was successfully implemented before the race resumed.
