Alpine team boss Flavio Briatore has shared his thoughts on the controversial incident involving his drivers at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Italian executive admitted he was initially very upset with how the events unfolded on track, but emphasized that he prefers to look forward since the past is the past.
To recap, on lap 36 of the race during a safety car restart, Franco Colapinto locked his front tires on the dusty and low-grip inside of turn one. As a result, his car slammed into the side of his teammate Pierre Gasly, taking both drivers out of the race and robbing the team of a likely double points finish. Lando Norris of McLaren was also collected in the incident.

Before this weekend, Franco Colapinto had been enjoying a strong spell of form, earning a new deal with the Enstone-based squad for the 2027 season to remain alongside Pierre Gasly. Despite the severity of the crash and heavy criticism from rivals, the management chose to handle the situation internally rather than issuing severe penalties.
In the current championship standings, Franco Colapinto sits in 12th place with 27 points.
